LONG-standing councillor Dick Evans is to retire next year, after spending 21 years on the council.
The ex-mayor has announced his decision to stand down as a representative of the Moor Park ward at the next election, in May 2000.
He first arrived at the council in May 1971, working for the then Moorbrook Ward. After being defeated at the polls, he arrived back 16 years ago and has remained a councillor ever since.
During his time as a councillor for Moor Park he has spearheaded campaigns to get improvements in the Lovat Road area. He became mayor in 1997.
Moor Park Labour Party chairman, John Collins, said: "We cannot begin to thank him enough for the many years hard work and the innumerable cases he has worked on during his time as a councillor."
