THERE was no room for argument as King Edward VII and Queen Mary School took first place in a district debating competition.
The Lytham school played host to four other schools in the senior debating contest run by the English Speaking Union.
Sixth form students Elizabeth Brett and Christian Paterson impressed the panel of three judges chaired by barrister Fraser Livesey.
Proposing a motion calling for the censorship of the Internet they were awarded top place ahead of teams from Arnold School, Lancaster and Carlisle.
Frances Jones and Charles Holland were also commended by the judges.
Christian said: "We had to speak fluently and with confidence, and also be quick to respond to appropriately to the questions put us by the audience.
"Liz and I were very pleased to be awarded first place."
The team will now compete against other winning schools in the regional round of the competition.
