IT WOULD appear the actions of the Residents' Action Team, against the Railway Road Area Permit Parking, supported by Leigh Conservative Association, has achieved its goal of having the scheme scrapped.

The Action Team has led an ongoing fight against the Permit Parking Scheme, which would have led to an unfair levy of £10 for every resident and business in the area.

The constant stream of letters and telephone calls to Wigan MBC eventually led to further consultations with residents and businesses in the form of a questionnaire.

But, if local councillors and Wigan MBC had consulted effectively early on, and actually listened to the residents and businesses, then surely a lot of council tax payers money, and officials' time could have been saved.

Despite requests by the Action Team and Leigh Conservative Association, local councillors responsible for the area never responded to offers for meetings for further discussions regarding the scheme.

Following numerous letters and telephone calls, no attempt was made by Wigan MBC to contact the Action Team or Leigh Conservatives to advise us of the final results.

This saga has been another clear example of Leigh Labour councillors following the Wigan party line, instead of listening to and standing up for the wishes of local people who elected them.
