A LYTHAM seafront eyesore should finally disappear for good next year.
The site of the former Scruples nightclub, a derelict shell which marred the foreshore for years until its demolition in January, is set to become a vantage point for walkers, birdwatchers and sightseers.
And Lytham St Annes Lions have offered to install seating and a compass table highlighting points of interest around the Ribble estuary. But first the site must be thoroughly cleared and reinstated with a wall, steps and paving by owner Fylde Borough Council.
The hold-up is cash - five contractors have submitted quotations for the work ranging from £18,000 to £32,000, whereas only £10,000 was allowed in this year's budget.
Fylde tourism committee is recommending the council's own Adult Training team be given the contract for £16,300. Chairman Coun John Longstaff is hoping for budget approval to start the job in January: "We need to finish it off, it's one of our prime areas," he said.
The property has long been a headache for the council - its various incarnations as a nightclub, roller-skating rink and cafe all foundered, and a bid last year for it to become an arts exhibition centre was turned down.
