A WOMAN doused herself in methylated spirits and set fire to herself at her home in Accrington following a family dispute, police said today.
Detectives talked to family members but have now closed their investigation into the circumstances in which Tahira Saddiq, of Major Street, Scaitcliffe, suffered burns.
Mrs Saddiq was today being treated at the Royal Preston Hospital after sustaining burns to her shoulders, neck and face after the incident at her home.
She was initially taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary where she received treatment for nine per cent burns to her neck. She was today transferred to Preston because of potential breathing difficulties caused by injuries to her windpipe. A hospital spokeswoman today described her condition as "satisfactory". Fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at 12.30pm yesterday. The fire badly burnt a sofa and part of the carpet, and smoke damage was caused to part of the ground floor. Neighbours said they believed a family lives at the house.
A spokesman for Accrington CID said: "We have spoken to the woman's family and we are satisfied that the injuries were self-inflicted."
