A HOME draw in the third round of the FA Cup beckons for Preston North End, if they can see off non-league Enfield, after drawing 0-0 in the teams' first encounter.
A replay against Enfield shouldn't really be necessary after Preston all but camped in the non-league side's half of the pitch, creating numerous chances.
Twice Preston had the ball in the net, but on both occasions the linesman ruled them out for offside, the second of which resulted in Preston skipper Sean Gregan, pictured, getting booked for arguing.
But it was Enfield who had the first chance when Preston were caught square at the back as a searching free kick picked out Grant Cooper on the right of goal. His well-hit volley was saved well by David Lucas at the near post.
North End soon settled down, with Graham Alexander setting up a shooting chance for Gregan from 25 yards. Lack of power meant Enfield's keeper Jerome John comfortably saved.
North End soon settled down, with David Eyres producing a great run at the Enfield defence which sent defenders in all directions.
He took the ball into the box, hitting a powerful drive which John pushed into the path of Gunnlaugsson, who pushed it into the net.
But the celebrations were cut short as the linesman's flag went up for offside.
It wouldn't have mattered had Eyres scored from 12 yards out a minute later. As fans prepared to see the net bulge, Eyres sent the ball high and wide.
As half time approached, Preston missed another great chance as Gunnlaugsson hit the ball a foot wide.
The second half continued as the first finished, with Mark Rankine shooting wide.
David Eyres then burst through into the box with a neat run past two defenders. He looked a certain scorer until he was brought down.
A definite penalty? Not if you were the referee, who amazingly waved play on. In the dying seconds of injury time, Preston seemed to have pulled themselves from the brink as Alexander and Eyres linked for a corner on the right which Nogan bounced into the net.
However, it was ruled offside and, to add insult to injury Gregan was booked.
North End can win at Enfield, but the finishing needs improving.
