A JOURNALIST from Greenmount was arrested and quizzed by police this week following revelations concerning the Manchester IRA bomb three years ago.
Manchester Evening News reporter Steve Panter, who used to work for the Bury Times, was interviewed by officers at Astley Bridge police station, Bolton, on Tuesday.
The move came seven months after the MEN. ran an article naming the police's prime suspect behind the Manchester bombing. Mr Panter was arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting wilful misconduct in a public office, contrary to common law.
He was quizzed on how he got information giving details about the man suspected of being involved in the outrage.
The story claimed the man from Northern Ireland had been back to the scene several times. But detectives had decided not to arrest him because the CPS said that although there was sufficient evidence to detain and question him, there was no realistic chance of a court conviction without further evidence.
After his interview, Mr Panter was released without charge.
