WITH reference to Bramwell Speaks Out (LET, November 25) about Rovers' first team squad being top heavy, creating the problem of the excellent youth set-up being stifled and the emerging talent struggling to break into the reserves on a consistent basis. I wrote to Brian Kidd and Jack Walker in October about young midfielder Wayne Gill being given a chance.
Since then he has played in the reserves away against Aston Villa - who had Paul Merson and Stan Collymore in their side - and Rovers won 2-0.
Recently, Rovers Reserves played Manchester United who included four Premiership winners, Cup winners and European Cup winners, and drew . . . a disputed goal in the last minute cost them another victory!
It seems to me that the Rovers can't recognise a footballer when they see one.
Watching football on television, we see players who previously played for Rovers, and fail to understand why we are left with the ones that we have.
I challenged Blackburn Rovers management to look at the videos of matches played this season with Gill playing, and tell me I'm wrong in my assessment of this player.
Kidd was good enough to answer my letter and stated he could not discuss team selection, but I honestly believe if he had played this player on a regular basis, he would still be Rovers manager.
