A PROJECT to celebrate Hyndburn's past, present and future will be led by a woman from the borough.
Accrington-born Julia Denwer, 28, of Ash Lane, Great Harwood, who has lived and worked throughout England, has been appointed Hyndburn Council's millennium co-ordinator.
She will lead a council project called Timeline, to help residents celebrate the borough's history and future. The project comprises a series of Year 2000-themed events, and is supported by money from the Millennium Commission.
The project will include a photography competition, history workshops, disability awareness days, youth council meetings, a festival and a video-based sound and vision project.
A programme of activity to mark the contribution of ethnic minorities to the borough is also linked to the project, and will be run in conjunction with the European Year Against Racism project.
Workshops outlining the projects are already under way and are open to residents. One is at Accrington Town Hall on Friday, from 7pm to 9pm, and another is at Churchfield House, Great Harwood, on Saturday, from 11am to 1pm.
