WATCHING the Panorama programme on gun control in America on BBC-1 on November 22, reminded me of the New York cop who told me that New York has strong gun laws. "But," he added "the damn things come over from California and other states where they have no laws and we suffer from it, and so do you."
He wasn't just referring to the Irish troubles, but to the other shootings and armed robberies around the country which don't just cost the people involved, but cost us all because the police and hospitals don't just run themselves.
The money involved could give us better railway stations, airports, etc. Come to that, the US didn't privatise the railways, they just let people invest in them. Enough said?
