ONE of the long-standing unbeaten records has finally been surrendered.
Third Division Tag who joined the league over two and a half years ago, have never lost a league game. In recent weeks however, they have only just managed to hang on to their 100 per cent record.
This week TAG were entertained by second-bottom Westholme and what a disaster this turned out to be after a very competitive affair. Their veteran lady Sue Whittaker helped clinch some vital games by taking five of the level and five of the mixed doubles events.
The best result of the evening saw Sue's son Adam and Dominic Heys record a 15-2 win over favourites M Ayud and G Walsh.
This was a great team performance by Westholme and they fully deserved their fine win.
Prince, following their win over bottom-placed Aztec, now take the second place in the table, with Roefield B still retaining the top place after easily defeating Avondale.
In the Second Division there was a surprise first defeat of the leaders Roefield A in a top half clash with Mount Carmel. This surprise first defeat of the season was caused by the excellent way in which Mount Carmel kept their cool and retained the pressure throughout the match.
Roefield still have a huge lead at the top of the table. Independents B, firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, earned themselves a surprise win over mid-table Abacus. In spite of their defeat, Pleckgate secured some vital bonus points to give yet another change at the top of the First Division - Brockhall who played much the better on the night in this truly competitive match, deserved the win. At the bottom half of the table, Stanhill A did themselves a power of good in taking a narrow win over fellow strugglers St Philip's.
