MANUFACTURERS are seeing continued growth but employment levels remain flat, a poll showed today.
The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply found business in the sector - which dominates East Lancashire's economy - increased in November for the sixth month running.
Further rises in output and swelling order books were behind the improvement, although new export orders were slightly down. Prices also increased, providing further concerns that the Bank of England may move to push up rates.
Roy Ayliffe, director of professional practice at CIPS, said: "We've seen a surge in demand for UK manufactured goods and purchasing managers have responded by running down stocks, contributing to improved efficiency and productivity."
