SATURDAY is a big cross country day. Rossendale Harriers are hosting the final Red Rose League fixture, while our other clubs will be contesting the Mowbray Mid-Lancs League contest at Tulketh HS, Preston.
Schoolchildren from Blackburn and Darwen will be racing in Witton Park from 10am, hoping to qualify to run for the town in the Lancashire Schools Championships.
There are three road races on offer on Sunday. The Guy's 10m at Guy's Thatched Hamlet, Bilsborrow, near Garstang, is a favourite because it is flat and fast. Leave the M6 at J32 and travel north along the A6. Start is at 10.30am.
PC O'Sullivan's offering is the Jack and Gee Kirk four-mile road race. It starts at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, The Square, Littleborough at 11.15am.
The City of Salford five-miler is a ladies only race. For further details contact John Schofield on 01254 723029. The Bolton by Bowland Fell Race starts at 11.30am on Sunday. Race distance is eight miles, and the course includes 800 feet of ascent. Start is Bolton by Bowland, near Clitheroe, and race organiser is Roger Dewhurst on 01200 447634.
