BURNLEY hot-shot Andy Payton has few equals in the Nationwide Second Division.

But one man who can claim to push him fairly close is Wycombe front-man Sean Devine.

In terms of style of play and physical stature, the two strikers are like chalk and cheese.

Devine is a big, powerful target man who relies on brawn, while Payton is very much a poacher, who relies heavily on blistering pace and his predatory instincts.

But when it comes to the striker's art of putting the ball in the back of the net, both are among the most prolific in the Division.

As our Opta stats reveal, Devine has slammed home 12 goals in the Second Division during his 1,419 minutes of action so far this season.

That's three more than Payton who has nine to his name from a similar amount of games.

But the Burnley man has turned provider on more occasions, serving up five goal assists this term compared to Devine's four.

The former Barnet man appears to be more inclined to get out wide, however, rather than loitering solely in and around the box.

Yet when it comes to trickery, Payton is the man with the greater finesse, having made over 50 dribbles and runs with a success rate of 65 per cent.

And the Padiham predator is also more inclined to help out his defence.

There's no doubt that both men can be match winners on their day, though.

And Steve Davis, Mitchell Thomas and Co will have to keep a close eye on the Wycombe hit-man if the Clarets want to maintain their excellent home form.
