Division Two: Burnley v Wycombe Wanderers - Andy Neild's preview
LENNY Johnrose hardly has fond memories of facing Wycombe during his time at Turf Moor.
But the 30-year-old midfielder is desperate to line up against them tomorrow after being frozen out of the first 11 in the last couple of weeks.
It was at Adams Park in February last February when Johnrose was red-carded for an ugly challenge just a handful of games into his Clarets career.
But despite that early setback he soon managed to win over the Burnley fans.
And he had since established himself as a regular until a groin problem temporarily forced him out of the reckoning last month.
"From a personal point of view, I'm just hoping to be involved on Saturday," said Johnrose.
"It's been a frustrating time but the lads have done very well and you can't really knock them.
"I think I've been a bit unlucky but there are going to be a few lads who will think the same.
"I got back in the side, did okay, and then got injured again.
"But the lads who have come in since have done very well so I can't really complain.
"There'll be no banging on doors or anything like that.
"I was enjoying it when I was in the side and we had a couple of good results. We beat Cambridge, we did well at Millwall and we beat Bristol City at our place. "So it's frustrating for me, especially because I don't normally get injured.
"In the last three years or so I've probably only missed four games.
"But you've just got to keep on going and, when the chance comes, hope to take it.
"Micky Mellon dropped out of the side recently but got back in straight away and I'm just hoping that will happen to me."
Whilst Johnrose has been out of the side, the Clarets have maintained their impressive form in the league.
And last Saturday's 1-1 draw with league leaders Wigan at the JJB Stadium provided further evidence of just how far they have come since the likes of Johnrose and Steve Davis arrived at the start of the year.
"The lads were disappointed with a draw, to be honest, which shows how much we've come on in the last year," said Johnrose.
"I thought we could easily have been two or three up in the first half and we were a bit unlucky to concede the goal.
"The second half was a bit more even but we had a chance right at the end through Alan Lee so we are disppointed we didn't win it." And Johnrose is confident the Clarets will carry on in a similar vain against Wycombe, whether he is in the side or not.
"Our draw down there on the opening day of this season was a good result at the time but we are going pretty well at the minute and we'll be looking to win it tomorrow.
"They were pretty much as they've always been. They are strong and physical with a lot of good athletes and they are well organised.
"But I'm not too bothered about what they can do.
"All I'm interested in is what we do and, with the squad we've got at the moment, we'll be looking for a win as we do going into every game."
