I TOO read the letter from Councillor Denwood recently which was printed in the local press. I thought it a bit tactless and opportunistic for the councillor to have written it in the tone she did and as a fellow member of the Scotforth Labour Party I would not hesitate to tell her to her face what Chris Waters told her in a letter.
However I also have no doubt that the political right is as much, if not more, guilty of preening itself on and around Remembrance Day as the Greens or the Labour Party (right or left) can be.
I know Chris Waters as I work with him and he is a decent man however his views are sometimes a little over the top.
In conclusion, and I write as both a socialist and member of a family which has always defended this country in both world wars - you don't have to go to Remembrance parades to be worthy of respect. All you have to do is remember the victims of the wars - all wars all year round and not just on November 11.
Above all you must remember why so many people died and strive to stop it happening again.
