THE annual popular Christmas lights switch-on - by David Lonsdale of TV's Heartbeat - drew the crowds to Preston's Flag Market last week.
David, who will play Dame Tilly in Preston's pantomime Goldilocks and the Three Bears, flicked the switch at 6pm on Thursday, to the delight of hundreds of shoppers.
But the event lasted two hours - with entertainment from 97.4 Rock FM's Thundertruck, competitions and giveaways, plus an appearance by dance band 'DJ Flavours'.
PNE players, champion boxer Paul Burke and Steve Royle, who plays Muddles in the Charter Theatre's panto, also enjoyed the evening which was topped off by a spectacular laser and light show above Preston's town centre streets
The event was organised by Preston Borough Council and 97.4 Rock FM, in association with St George's Shopping Centre.
Councillor Rose Kinsella, chairman of Preston's leisure services committee, said: "The council were delighted to provide this free evening spectacular once again. It is always very popular, with large crowds attending."
Michelle Surrell, 97.4 Rock FM's managing director, said: "The switch on is always an exciting event and Rock FM were delighted to support the evening of entertainment, along with St George's."
