I AM sick to death of correspondents criticising young people on this Letters page. When will these adults start to realise that times are changing and that some their views are very offensive to young adults like myself. They criticise bad language but I have heard more adults shouting such abuse at us than the other way around. Let me give readers an example.
My friend smokes and was having a cigarette on his driveway because his mum wouldn't let him smoke in the house. He had just finished when a man of around 60 came up and threatened us, saying that if my friend didn't stop smoking he would "shove the cigarette up his rectum".
Now is that the sign of a "mature" adult?
The fact is that some words which adults find offensive are now in common use and are more or less accepted in society; they are no longer seen as abusive or vulgar. So I would ask the "mature" generation to keep up with the times.
