LOOK forward to the first year of the 21st century and take a peek back at the same time with Leigh's own Millennium calendar.
Leigh Business Partnership and Wigan Council teamed-up with Atherton printers Murbros to produce a calendar featuring Leigh scenes from the 50s and 60s dedicated to the memory of the late Rita Jones who helped produce last year's Leigh calendar for the Centenary Celebrations.
Snow-clearing in Chapel Street, a mid-60s shot of Leigh Parish Church and the old outdoor market place, Leigh Harriers jubilee, the Spinning Jenny plaque in its original location half a century ago and other gems are reproduced on glossy A3 paper.
Most of the prints reproduced in the spiral bound publication are from the Dick Sutton Collection in Leigh Archives. Mr Sutton was The Journal's photographer.
Cllr Tom Sherratt, calendar co-ordinator, said: "The calendar is dedicated to the life of Rita Jones and any profits from its sale will go to a charity of Brian Jones' choice."
Converted for the new archive on 14 July 2000. Some images and formatting may have been lost in the conversion.
