TO Ernest Allen (Letters, November 25) and all those people who believe 2001 should be celebrated as the millennium year, I submit the following.
I was born in 1928 (I don't remember it, but I have an official document that says so).
In 1946, the Government sent me an invitation (my calling up papers), for me to join the armed forces for my National Service, as they said I was 18 years old.
In 1993, the Government started paying me my old age pension, as they said I was 65 years old.
Now, everyone tells me that I am 71 years old and in 2028 I am fully expecting to get a telegram of congratulation from the Queen, (providing we are both alive).
Had I been born 28 years earlier, ie in 1900, then I would have expected the telegram next year.
Please, stop confusing me.
T BILLINGTON (Mr), St Alban's Court, Blackburn.
