FORGET the kitchen wall - four classroom works of art from lucky youngsters are on display as part of Blackpool's Christmas and Millennium Lights.
Drawings by primary school classmates Aimee Partington, Hayley Wolley, Stephanie Byrne and Catherine Iredale were the winners of a competition run by Blackpool Council for pupils to draw what the Millennium means to them. And the judges were so impressed that they turned them into an illuminated feature.
The youngsters, Bispham Endowed pupils Aimee and Hayley, Stephanie from St Bernadette's and Catherine from Devonshire Infant School, switched the feature on during a prize giving ceremony on Monday (Dec 29).
The quartet will be joined by the overall winner of the competition, Highfield High School pupil Andrew Chambers, whose design has been transformed into a Millennium logo to be used on all the council's millennium literature.
Council leader Ivan Taylor said: "Thousands of Blackpool children have been taking part in events the council has organised to help them mark the Millennium.
"We had a fantastic response to this particular competition and choosing the eventual winners wasn't easy. After all, it's not every day you get the chance to boast that pictures you've drawn have helped to promote Britain's premier holiday destination at such an exciting time in the world's history."
The winners' designs have also been turned into banners which will decorate the town centre.
