ST HELENS Schools under 11s suffered an agonising defeat at the hands of in the quarter-finals of the North-West Cup on Saturday.
Kirkby took the lead against the run of play but John Bathurst equalised before half-time. In the second half St Helens scored again through John Skerritt to lead 2-1. But, with just two minutes remaining Kirkby struck back and took the game into extra-time golden goal. Neither side could finish the game and Kirkby ran out eventual winners 4-3 on penalties. Matthew Helsby was man of the match.
The under 11s B team drew 2-2 at Nuneaton A. Scorers were David Connolly and Neil Ormond. Andrew Hallows was man of the match.
