A HELP and advice centre for local people has received a boost from this year's St Annes Charity Carnival.

The Face to Face charity, which runs a drop-in centre and advice shop in the town, is among four local causes to benefit from the proceeds of the carnival.

The organisation will receive a grant of £2,000 year with the funds used to provide food, health packs and emergency provisions for local people.

Face to Face project manager Doug Clements said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this boost.

"The project relies on voluntary donations and community involvement to keep going.

"Local people are helped by the centres which received more than 2,000 visits last year and it is great to see our work is appreciated."

The Mayor's Millennium Appeal Fund will receive a grant of £200 to help with the construction of a "Millennium Maze" in the town.

Lytham St Annes Sea Cadets will also receive a grant of £200 from carnival proceeds.

The naval charity aims to develop discipline and leadership in young people and the funds will go towards the refurbishment of a galley, used for weekend events, and improving facilities.

A further donation of £200 has been awarded to help fund the rebuilding and extending of the YMCA at St Annes.

Charity committee vice-chairman Caroline Livesey said: "We feel it is vital the town acknowledges the importance of carnival day to local charities.

"The carnival brings a lot of enjoyment to children and families every year and helps foster community spirit.

"We hope we can secure the community's continued support for the event."

The official presentation, hosted by the Mayor of Fylde, Cllr Margaret Procipodes, took place at St Annes Town Hall on Dec 2.
