WORK will soon start on the refurbishment of Astley's historic Dam House.
The old manor house, a Grade Two Listed Building, will be the focal point of a £2.3 million community project which has Lottery backing.
Here members of Morts Astley Heritage Trust, which takes its name from the family which lived in Dam House, have a closer look as their dream approaches reality.
In the New Year the Trust hopes to complete work on the ground floor of the old hospital administration block which has lain empty for five years. Refurbishment will be overseen by English Heritage.
Local businesses have backed the Trust fundraisers and ever-helpful Hi-Tec (Tyldesley) scaffolding bosses Steve Crook and Frank Hayes are pictured with members outside the old hall.
Trust chair Christine Jones said: "We'd like to thank everyone who has helped in any way.
"We still need to make up a shortfall in funding of £160,000. Hopefully there are local firms with specialist skills who would be prepared to help with either labour or materials."
Any offers should be made to David Jones on 01942 893407.
