SELFISH drivers who cause traffic hold-ups by inconsiderate parking will be targeted by new-look traffic wardens.
This week Greater Manchester Police launched a team of scooter-mounted wardens to help get to trouble spots quickly.
The hit squad will wear police-type uniforms and deal with the more serious parking offences and sorting out trouble spots with a key role of keeping traffic moving.
In Manchester local authority parking attendants have the responsibility of monitoring yellow lines and pay and display zone offences and bother areas within the county are planning to follow suit.
GMP traffic warden co-ordinator Stuart Murray said: "Most motorists read the parking signs and park sensibly.
"Unfortunately there are many who don't and it is their actions that cause delays and can place other road users and pedestrians in danger.
"Police traffic wardens and civilian parking attendants have a difficult job to do, but it is a job that must be done if traffic is to move freely.
"The message this December is clear, flout the parking regulations or park inconsiderately and you're likely to receive a ticket."
Police advice to motorists is:
when parking in a street read the parking information notice (usually fixed to a lamp post)
never park with your wheels on a pavement
ensure pay and display tickets are clearly visible in your windscreen
never park on double yellow lines
never park where you could cause danger to other motorists or pedestrians.
