Division Two: Gillingham 1 Bury 0
THOUGH a disappointing result, it was a vastly improved performance from the injury-ravaged Shakers.
Bury had Martyn Forrest, Matt Barrass and Baichung Bhutia starting for the first time, plus Ryan Souter making his debut for the stretchered off Andy Woodward.
Acting manager Andy Preece was delighted saying after the game: "They were superb, I could not have asked for any more.
"I knew what the lads from the reserves could do, and they did it well, they were brilliant.
"We knew that Gillingham had three giant centre halves, so it was important to play the ball to the feet of the forwards and get round the back. We did well and could have had two goals in the first half.
"Paul Barnes is devastated that he didn't get at least one, whereas I can't remember them having a chance.
"I will be in charge for the next two games, and I am really loving it, so who knows, if we get the right results, something might come of it."
Unfortunately for perked up Shakers, Roland Edge bagged the winner for the home side after 62 minutes.
