A 20-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries when she lost control of her car as she drove through a large pool of standing water in Roundhill Road, Haslingden, at 10am yesterday.
Police said the Ford Fiesta driven by Suzanne Walton, of Rakehead Lane, Stacksteads, was in collision with a Ford Transit van driven by Alan Hargreaves, 51, of Ashworth Street, Baxenden. The van then collided with a barrier.
Ms Walton was taken to Blackburn Infirmary with serious head injuries.
She was today in a "comfortable" condition. Mr Hargeaves suffered whiplash injuries.
The accident happened near Brookside Nurseries when it was raining heavily. Police closed the road for two hours.
