FORMER Burnley boss John Benson praised his young match-winner for a Roy of the Rovers finish as 17-year-old debutant Andrew Morris sent the Clarets sliding out of the Auto Windscreens Shield last night.
Second-year-trainee Morris scored the golden-goal 18 minutes after coming on for his first senior appearance that took holders Wigan into round two.
"It was Roy of the Rovers stuff to come on and score the winner. And didn't he take it well," said Benson after his side had come from behind to claim a 2-1 victory.
Benson admitted that the game could have gone either way but was happy to take his place in the next round.
"I don't think it was that important and I don't think Stan would have wanted extra-time.
"But we play the game to win, whatever team you put out. I did weaken the team a bit but when you go out you want to win it."
He added: "They could have done without extra-time because they've got a big game at Derby on Saturday, but as it was only 15 minutes it wasn't that bad."
