Hollins High year 11 26 St Augustines year 11 24 HOLLINS High made it three wins out of four thanks to a last-gasp basket from Simon Pollard.

With the scores level at 24-24 and the match seemingly heading for a draw, Pollard popped up in the last minute to score the winning basket.

It was heartache for St Augustine's who were always chasing the game but looked like they had scraped a draw when they drew level in the closing stages.

However the next score was always going to be vital and it was Hollins who grabbed the decisive basket to underline their impressive start to the season.

And it rounded off a personal triumph for Pollard who was Hollins leading scoring on the night with a 10-point haul.

For St Augustines, it was their third successive defeat but on this showing that first win of the season won't be long in coming.

However the home side admitted that they under achieved on the night and St Augustine's were unlucky not to leave without at least a share of the spoils.

And the Whalley school deserved it after clawing back a four point deficit in the closing stages.

Dominic Dyer grabbed the two baskets that drew the sides level and take his own total up to 10 points. St Augustines other scorers where David Bailey, who also scored 10 points, and Ian Whalley who grabbed the remaining four points. The match seemed to heading for a draw but Pollard and his team-mates obviously had other ideas.

In a tight match where neither side could take full control, it was on the cards that something dramatic was going to seal the tie.

And so it proved and with less than a minute to go Pollard scored to seal the win.

Pollard took his season's total to 40 points just one behind Karim Webb.

Hollins High coach Keith Vizzard said: "We have some very important games coming up and this win was the perfect boost. We may have won three out of three but we know we can do a lot better and we were certainly not at out best against St Augustines.

"They were very unlucky because they deserved to get something out of the match."

Tom Holt of St Augustines is certain his side will not have to wait long for their first win.

He said: "The lads played very well and were unlucky because they kept on coming back every time Hollins opened up a six point gap. And it looked like we were going to get the draw until they scored right at the end."
