A TOTALLY committed Accrington side enjoyed their best display and win of the season so far when they took on Albion in cold and miserable conditions at Victoria Park, Warrington.
They displayed tremendous defensive skills throughout the game, restricting their opponents to brief periods of possession inside the Accrington half, at no time did the home side ever seriously threaten the Accrington line and once the visitors had registered their third try just after the break, the result was never in doubt.
Accrington showed great discipline all through the game and never let Latchford's spoiling and intimidatory tactics detract them from their own target.
Tony Hindle scored Accrington's first after 10 minutes following a jinking run down the middle after good work by O'Rourke put him clear.
Paul Kynaston scored the second before half time and from then on Accrington dominated for long periods without adding to the score. O'Rourke appeared to have scored under the posts as the half time approached but the try was disallowed for an earlier infringement.
Strong running prop Paul Scanlon broke through Latchford lines on a diagonal run and crashed over with defenders desperately trying to pull him down.
Don Payne then scored in the corner following a run to the line from halfway after good work by the forwards. Subs Ian Targett and John Tyson also scored debut tries late on to seal a memorable win.
Six unconverted tries says it all for the hard work put in by the players and coaches in training.
Kicking was made difficult in the wind and mud, but had someone had their kicking boots on the score would have been more emphatic.
The players and staff returned to Accrington in joyous mood where they enjoyed a Christmas Karaoke Disco at the cricket club.
League leaders Pilkingtons are the visitors to Highams, Accrington on Saturday.
