LAST year's Mayor of Pendle and avid Burnley FC fan Councillor Colin Waite, will fight to retain the Nelson County Council seat for Labour.
Coun Waite, who represents Clover Hill ward on Pendle Council, was selected as Labour's prospective candidate for the county seat, which was left vacant in October by the death of stalwart Joe French.
Pendle Labour Party president Tony Leo, said: ""If elected, Colin would be a superb county councillor for Nelson."
Fellow Pendle councillor Safdar Hussain was named as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the post several weeks ago. Coun Hussain is chairman of the Nelson LibDem group.
The Conservatives have yet to name their candidate. and a date for the election has not yet been set.
