THE letter in your edition of December 2 by Cllr Mace (Nether Kellet) in which he stated: "Economic development must not be at the expense of areas of environmental sensitivity" must rank as a prime example of Tory cant and hypocrisy.
He must have either a very short memory or a thick skin (or both) not to be aware of how his Tory colleagues on the city council led by his predecessor Mrs Shuttleworth and the present mayor promoted the building of unneeded and unwanted housing on what was clearly "greenbelt land."
Clearly against the wishes of local people and using spurious and questionable figures they promoted a development which not only spilled into the green belt but opened the area for further development and at no time during the whole process did we hear the voice of the then parish councillor Roger Mace raised in strong protest.
The houses, now built and known locally as "Hilda's Folly" stand as a complete rebuttal to the points made by Cllr Mace.
