ON your 'Dear Star' pages recently we had three sexist-inspired women writers arguing on the earth-shattering merits, or otherwise, of calling a chairman or chairwoman, rather woodenly, a 'chair', leaving a man from the Good Companions Writers to attempt to persuade St Helens Council (with a woman chief executive, a woman leader of the council, and a woman mayor) to appoint a woman Millennium 'Freeman of the borough of St Helens.'
No doubt if the male succeeded in winning his battle, then these same petty-minded sexist women could then later wish to change her title from the traditional title of 'Freeman of the Borough' to read 'Freewoman of the Borough.'
Wouldn't you think that these three women would support the more major issue instead of bickering at each other over such a laughable matter? If they ever wished to be taken seriously that is.
Amused male (name and address supplied).
