WESTLEIGH High School is going mobile for the first time, thanks to an early Christmas present.

Now pupils can head off on trips to Berlin at Easter, visit the Millennium Dome and visit places of interest around the north west.

The school yesterday took possession of their first minibus, thanks to their own fund raising efforts and sponsorship from Aqua Speed, of Atherton.

The bus will also be available to community groups, local sports teams and primary schools to use on a non profit making basis.

Students raised more than £1,000 to contribute to the bus, provided by North West Trucks of Huyton, which has all the required safety measures.

Head teacher, John Pout, said: "The bus will allow our students to raise their horizons to the world and give them opportunities which we in the past economically out of the question.

"The bus has been built to the highest specifications to ensure the safety of its users is paramount. I would like this it to be used by our primary partner schools and the other groups in the community."
