WHALLEY Juniors took part in a Six-a-side tournament organised by Martin Glover, the Education Welfare Officer at Blackburn Rovers Academy based at Brockhall for the two under 11s teams, the Arrows and the Tigers.

The competing teams were Blackburn Academy Under 10s, Clitheroe Wolves Under 11s Red, Clitheroe Under 11s Blue, Whalley Tigers Under 11s and Whalley Arrows Under 11s.

Whalley Arrows lost narrowly to the Academy side. Gary Micaleff gave them the lead, but they were beaten by two late goals, Alex Smith was outstanding for Whalley.

Whalley then beat Clitheroe Wolves Red team 2-1 with goals from Marlon Murray and Chris Baron. Rob Kellaway and Adam Stanworth were outstanding. In the next game they played the Wolves Blue team and came from a goal behind to gain a creditable draw with a fine strike from Micaleff.

Mark Astley and goalie Michael Dilworth were the star men. In their final game they took on the Tigers, but it was the Arrows who won thanks to goals from Murray (2) and one each from Micaleff and Baron. By contrast the Tigers did not perform to their usual standard and they took only one point from the competition.
