LSA 1ST XI 2 BROOKLANDS 2ND XI 1

THE very slight difference in strength between the top and bottom teams of the Northern Hockey League (div 1) was never more apparent than in this match when LSA found Brooklands a very hard nut to crack. Brooklands scored after about 15 minutes but LSA equalised ten minutes later, Ian Brown scoring from a Dave Robbins pass. Although they had a number of chances at the early part of the second half, LSA failed to score. However, Chris Kay saved the day and the points to keep his team well up amongst the leaders when he converted a penalty corner not long before the close.

LSA 2ND XI 0 ULVERSTON 1ST XI 1

LSA's inability to score goals was never more apparent as very many chances went begging. This cost them dearly and plunged them further into the relegation zone. Their defence battled well with Doug Green and Mark Lees prominent and the teams were level at half-time. A badly defended short corner let Ulverston score early in the second half and with only ten men, Richard Isherwood having been sent off, LSA failed to rally.

LSA 3RD XI 3 DEESIDE 3RD XI 1

THIS was a very good performance over a team which LSA has already lost to earlier in the season. Right from the start LSA showed a determination that has been lacking lately. They scored their first goal, David Bleasdale converting a penalty corner after 20 minutes. A fierce shot from the edge of the circle found the corner of the net and this was followed soon after by a very good move which ended with David Nuttall scoring from close range. Deeside scored their goal shortly after half-time very much against the run of play, but LSA quickly recovered their composure and were rewarded with a penalty stroke after the ball had been prevented from entering the goal by a defenders foot. David Bleasdale confidently flicked the ball home.

LSA 4TH XI 2 MACCLESFIELD 4TH XI 4

PLAYING away in freezing conditions, LSA started well creating good chances and took the lead when a Mike Gannon shot hit the post and Phil Collier-Baker, following up well, hit the ball home. Macclesfield responded well and equalised from a well taken short corner. LSA again took the lead when Collier-Baker beat his marker on the left entered the circle and cracked the ball home. Just before half-time Macclesfield equalised again. The second half developed into a very scrappy affair with two Macclesfield and one LSA players receiving yellow cards for dissent. Defensive errors let LSA down and the home side scored twice to win the match. LSA 5TH XI O SPRINGFIELDS 3RD XI 3

PLAYING on the grass pitch at Lytham against a well organised Springfields team, LSA did well to contain their visitors to a 0-0 draw at half-time. The second half proved a bit too much for them and eventually Springfields finished worthy winners.

LYTHAM LADIES 1ST XI 3 SPRINGFIELDS 2ND XI 2

LYTHAM took the lead after a brilliant individual goal by Kerry Hunt who picked up the ball on the half-way line and beat several defenders before slipping the ball past the Springfields keeper. However, the home side fought back well and equalised before half-time. Lytham restored their lead after a fine run by Gill Harrison down the left wing before passing to Ann Preston who slammed the ball into the goal. Preston then scored a second to enhance Lytham's lead, but shortly before the end Springfields pulled one back.

LYTHAM 2ND XI should have played Clitheroe at home but their visitors were unable to field a team and Lytham take the points with a mandatory 4-0 win.

LYTHAM 3RD XI 5 MORECAMBE 4TH XI 0

FIELDING one of their strongest teams, Lytham played positive hockey from the start. The first goal came after only three minutes, scored by Jenny Lang. Karen Barker then scored twice before Lang added her second after a succession of passes from one player to another. The second half was more even with Lytham's defence playing well under pressure. Jenny Lang then completed his hat-trick before the end.
