Carnforth 6 Ruskin Park 13 CARNFORTH'S pursuit of Lancashire Plate glory came to an end on Sunday with a defeat at the hands of Ruskin Park from St Helens - a team from one league above.
Despite having a lot of the second half possession Carnforth could not find a way through the Ruskin defence as they hung on to clinch a place in the quarter finals.
After a late pitch inspection after overnight frost the game kicked off with a large crowd watching including a lot of away supporters. With the fight getting worse and the rain coming down the conditions were not getting better making life hard for both teams. Carnforth could not find a way through and after a huge clearance back upfield Ruskin were able to control the play once again and it was them who finished the stronger as Carnforth had run out of ideas. After five minutes of injury time the referee singled the end of an exciting game to allow Ruskin Park a place in the quarter finals of the plate and also a last 32 slot in the Lancashire Trophy.
