BLACKPOOL'S Imperial Cancer Research Fund shop is appealing for volunteers to help them reach a massive milestone for the millennium.

The charity shop, on Talbot Road, has nearly raised £1 million since opening 16 years ago.

And area retail manager Suzanne Williams said: "The team at our shop in Blackpool are extremely friendly and certainly enjoy themselves while they are working.

"But, of course, we could do with some fresh faces to help out whenever possible.

"And we're so close to the £1 million milestone it would be nice to get there as soon as possible.

"It would mean a lot to the people who have worked at the shop over the years.

"A lot of hard work goes into every day's work.

"When you consider that everything in the shop is donated to us, and the volunteers have to check it for quality, press it and sell it, then you realise how much work is involved.

"If you put it into the context that we usually sell a blouse for around £3 then you know how much effort raising £1 million requires.

"And every penny goes to the Imperial Research Charity, so we would welcome anyone who can help in the big push to reach the milestone.

"This could be a great opportunity for people who have found more time on their hands than they thought."

If you can offer as little as two hours a week to help the £1 million push, pop along to the Talbot Road shop and ask for store manager Graham Shields or call (01253) 625483.
