Hucknall Town 1 Lancaster City 3 TWO league wins in a row and now Lancaster are just three points behind league leaders Leigh RMI.

And they've every chance of making it three victories on the bounce at home to Gainsborough on Saturday.

Gainsborough themselves are not too far away from the top - but on this kind of form Lancaster look good for a win at home.

Tony Hesketh's side blew Hucknall away during the Saturday storms.

Hucknall (who had conceded six to Morecambe in the FA Trophy the previous week) took a surprise lead after nine minutes but then Kevin Barnes and Kenny Mayers made sure justice was done. Barnes has now scored eight goals in ten games after hitting two on Saturday.

He scored his first to equalise just sixty seconds after the break with a well taken goal. The player cleverly beat a defender before smacking an unstoppable shot past keeper Dave McCarthy.

Kenny Mayers gave his side the lead ten minutes later. Youngster Chris Ward held the ball up in the penalty area and laid it back to Mayers who beat three men and made no mistake to finish. It was a great goal. And Barnes hit another beauty on 81 minutes. This time Shane Jessop struck a good cross to the near post for Barnes to steal in and smash a hard hit volley into the net.

It was no more than City deserved. Now they must hope they can repeat the performance in front of their home fans on Saturday. They will also be hoping that star defender Jamie Udall - who hobbled off injured in the first half - will be back in action.

Team: Thornley, Sparrow, Graham, Udall (Kilbane 28), Horner, Mayers, Martin, Bailey, Ward (Crompton 79), Barnes, Jessop.
