Morecambe 6 Sutton United 2 MORECAMBE hit six goals for the second week running on Saturday.

There was double the gate at Christie Park from the previous week's destruction of Hucknall in the FA Trophy.

And if they perform like this at their next home game against local rivals Southport on December 27 they deserve to have the crowd double once again.

This week manager Jim Harvey was reported as saying the best is yet to come from his young charges. That's really saying something when you realise his team have scored 16 goals in their last three home games.

The result means Morecambe are just five points behind league leaders Yeovil with three games in hand. But they won't be getting too carried away just yet with two difficult away games at Woking and Kidderminster before Christmas.

It was Phil Eastwood who opened the floodgates for Morecambe with two first half goals. He scored his first after half an hour and his second just before the break.

But then, unexpectedly, Sutton clawed their way back in the second period. They pulled one back just after the break and had the temerity to equalise after 63 minutes.

The injustice of that stung Morecambe, who had been far the stronger side throughout, into launching a major assault on the Sutton goalkeeper. Top scorer Justin Jackson gave his side the lead on 70 minutes when he knocked home his own rebounded shot.

Morecambe then went into overdrive and scored three goals in the final ten minutes of the game. Stewart Drummond burst forward and crashed the ball into the net on 80 minutes. Leon Smith, making his first full Conference appearance, exchanged a few clever passes on the edge of the penalty area before calmly knocking it past the beleaguered Sutton keeper Howells. The coup de grace came from Darren Lyons a couple of minutes from the final whistle from a well taken free kick.
