RAINHILL Cricket Club saluted the stars of their season at their annual meeting and presentation night.
Chairman John Rotheram reported that although promotion had not been achieved, the Youth policy instigated for the 1999 season had paid off with five Under 15s playing in the 2nd XI and Liam Pearson, Mark Ford and David Walton appearing in the 1st XI.
Michael Rotheram who took over from Dave Birkett last season is again Club Captain: with Peter Mercer Vice Captain: Mark Candeland is 2nd XI Captain with Phil Atherton Vice Captain. Joe Crossley retains the position of Sunday XI skipper but with a new deputy Danny Sherratt. The successful Mid-Week XI who beat Beeches in the St. Helens Mid-Week Cup Final is again captained by John Rotheram.
The main Awards for 1999 were:
Player of the year: Mike Rotheram (1st XI), Matthew Dooling (Under 15), Liam Doherty (Under 13) and Paul Bathgate (Under 11).
First XI: batting Peter Mercer, bowling Dave Birkett & Nick Chapman
Second XI: batting Ken Bold, bowling Andy Bennett
Sunday XI: batting Jeff Fitzhenry, bowling Ross Strachan
Under 15: batting Liam Pearson, bowling Stephen Lewis Under 13: batting Liam Yate, bowling Robert Sinnick
Under 11: batting Michael Gavin, bowling Colm Lynch
A Special Award was give to Colin Gannon who peformed a hat-trick against Fleetwood Hesketh.
Indoor netting for the winter will be at Rainhill High School at the following times:
Juniors Monday 8.00 to 10.00 pm; Seniors Friday 6.00 to 8.00 pm.
