AN action plan has been drawn up to prevent the illegal occupation of land across the district over the Christmas period.

The city council and the local police force have held meetings to co-ordinate this year's strategy and environment chairman, Cllr Mark Turner, said: "Last year's strategy worked and we will do everything possible to ensure that last year's success will be repeated. We are absolutely determined to ensure that the residents of this district can enjoy their Christmas without nuisance posed by the illegal occupation of land."

Sgt Terry Contadine of Lancaster police explained that patrols are being increased at vulnerable areas favoured for illegal occupation in previous years.

An action plan has been agreed and preventable measures will be put in place well in advance of the Christmas period.
