DETECTIVES are turning to the small screen in an attempt to catch a thug who attacked a woman after asking to use her mobile phone.
The 23-year-old victim had to have three staples inserted into a deep wound after twice being struck on the head.
Police say the brutal attack took place off Flint Street, Bury, near the Wickes DIY store on November 26.
The attacker had earlier followed the woman and told her his car had broken down nearby. Detectives have examined video footage which clearly shows a man getting into a Ford Fiesta car - possibly red - on Wilkinson's car park and the woman walking past minutes before the attack.
The video is now to be shown on Granada TV's Crime File later this month as Bury detectives step up their hunt.
Detective Constable Denise O'Shea of Bury CID said: "The victim of this vicious attack has now recovered but we have not yet identified her attacker.
"We are confident a viewer may be able identify the man on the video."
The man is aged 20-30, 5ft 4ins tall, with dark hair and wearing a black jacket - possibly leather - over a white T-shirt and black trousers.
Anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the attack and who may have information should contact DC O'Shea on 0161 856 8150. Alternatively, they can freephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Crime File will be broadcast on December 21 at 7pm.
