AN adventurous couple are flying to the other side of the world to get married on the last day of the millennium.

Postman Stephen Knott, 26, and Julie Hindle, 27, who works as a supervisor at Lloyd's Pharmacy in Blackburn Road, Darwen, will tie the knot on December 31 on a beach in Cairns, Australia.

During their dream trip the pair will also visit Sydney and Ayres Rock.

Stephen, of Darwen, delivers mail in the Bull Hill area of Darwen. He plans to wear shorts and Julie, also of Darwen, is to wear a bikini.

He said: "We wanted to get married abroad and because New Year's Eve is a bank holiday in many places we didn't know if it would be possible.

"We've had the holiday booked for about a year, but have only just had our wedding date confirmed.

"I think Julie's dad would have liked to walk her down the aisle, but I think our families understand we wanted to do something a bit different."

The couple's rings were designed by one of Stephen's customers who owns a shop at The Last Drop Village, near Bolton. The marriage was arranged through Althams Travel.
