ANOTHER plan to build new homes in Guide has prompted anger among residents in the village, who have vowed to fight the project.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has submitted plans to its own planning officers to establish the principle of land near School Lane being earmarked for housing.
The site in question lies between the recently constructed flats at the old school house and Whitbread offices, in School Lane.
If councillors give the scheme the thumbs-up, a further and more detailed application will have to be drawn up, revealing exactly how many houses are planned for the site.
A 36-name petition has been handed in to the council on behalf of residents and the Guide Residents Committee has lodged an official letter of objection.
It says: "Permission for 153 homes has already been passed in this area and there are more than 200 existing homes. There is no local school and the closest other school has no places available to accommodate the children of any of the new developments.
"Traffic would increase even more in an area where vehicle and pedestrian safety has already been compromised."
Residents are already fighting other housing applications in the village and are waiting the outcome of a public inquiry into a huge commercial development, on the drawing board for more than a year. The council planning committee will discuss the plan on Thursday.
