JOHN Mullin hailed Burnley's best performance in his time at Turf Moor as they dumped Premiership Derby County out of the FA Cup at Pride Park on Saturday.
Mullin was at Burnley the last time they reached the fourth round and helped the Clarets hold Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Turf Moor in 1995, before they bowed out in the replay.
However, the midfield man, who returned to his hometown club from Sunderland in the summer, admitted that the 1-0 win at Derby had easily surpassed that occasion.
"It's certainly the best performance I've been involved in with a Burnley side. I thought everyone was tremendous," he said.
"It wasn't a smash-and-grab case. We thoroughly deserved it over the 90 minutes. We took the game to them straight away and just went on from there. "Everyone was just delighted with it, not just for us but for the fans, the manager and everyone involved with the club.
"That Derby team was assembled with a lot of money, millions of pounds, and we went out there and outplayed them so it's encouraging for the players and we're looking to go on from there and try and turn in that sort of performance week-in, week-out."
Stan Ternent's side received widespread acclaim on television and the national Press over the weekend and Mullin was delighted to help put the club back on the map.
"You come to a big stage like this and it gives you that chance to get some national coverage that you perhaps don't get in the Second Division," he admitted.
"So I think a lot of people will sit up now. If you look through the team, we've got good players and there's no reason why we can't come to the likes of Derby and put in good performances and get results."
