JUBILANT Clarets fans were on top of the world today celebrating the club's David and Goliath victory over premiership side Derby.

Burnley have only lost three out of the last 32 games, but Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup shocker, thanks to a second-half Andy Cooke goal, has to go down as one of the most memorable wins this year.

Burnley MP and long time Clarets fan Peter Pike said: "I was there. It was magnificent. We outplayed Derby and deserved to win. I hope we can now go on and take Coventry's scalp in the next round."

Colne Clarets treasurer Alan Beecroft summed up the outcome: "An excellent result - first class! It was better than I dared hope for. We did really well and the lads didn't tire in the second half. When they could have been running out of steam because of the pressure, they kept going. I am disappointed we haven't got a home draw in the next round but we can't complain and we will all be at Coventry.

"It will be a harder game than at Derby but there are no easy games when you are in the FA Cup. As long as they give a good account of themselves and give 100 per cent we will be happy."

Supporters donned Santa outfits and many more wore Santa hats to support their side and bring a touch of festive humour to Pride Park.

They were organised by crazy fan Alan Boys, who runs his own unofficial Burnley Football Club web site, and he said today: "It was wonderful, absolutely brilliant. For Coventry we will all be dressing up as Arabs! Santa's gallery even featured on Match of the Day." Boundary Clarets organiser Paul Smith said when his three coaches got back to Burnley at 7.45pm the fans were singing and dancing through the town centre. He said: "It was a brilliant result. We had 171 people on the coaches and everyone was in jubilant mood on the way home.

"When we play Coventry I hope everyone will turn up wearing a Burnley shirt. If we play the same attacking football hopefully we will come out with the same result."

Rossendale Clarets organiser Bev Todd declared: "Marvellous! It was a wonderful match and the police were marvellous in the way they brought us out of the ground and escorted us out with no hassle.

"We pick up from all over Rossendale, Todmorden, Rochdale, Littleborough and Heywood. One of our fans from Heywood is the only Burnley fan in a street of Manchester City and United supporters and he was going to wake everyone up at midnight.

"The draw is good as well because it is taking us to places many of the fans have never been before. My phone is already ringing for Coventry!"

Justin Limb, assistant manager at the Clarets new town centre shop Turf Moor in Town, said he had already had several people in the shop today enthusing about the result. Justin, who was working on Saturday, added: "We had the radio on and people kept coming in asking what the score was. We were all delighted with the result."
