A WOMAN who went to the police station to make a complaint of assault to police ended up attacking two officers and breaking a window.

Burnley magistrates heard how Katrina Blacklock, who is 20 but functions as a 12-year-old, had repeatedly caused trouble at Colne police station and had a "problem" with officers.

Blacklock, of Basil Street, Colne, said to suffer from a form of mental impairment, was put on probation for 12 months and ordered to pay £100 compensation after admitting destroying or damaging property, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and two counts of police assault. She was told by the bench she could have gone to prison but they had taken into account she had been on remand for three and a half months. She was told she must comply with the order in a bid to try and help her with her problems.

Elizabeth Reed, prosecuting, said Blacklock was aggressive, shouting for her dog and swore at police. She threatened to kick officers, began punching out and was restrained. Three policemen went towards her, told her to calm down and she kicked out at two.

She then hit one officer and when another took hold of her arm she bit his hand, causing him a great deal of pain.

The defendant continued to struggle and refused to release her teeth. The officer closed Blacklock's nostrils to get her to stop biting and she ripped his shirt.

She continued to be violent in the custody office.

Neil Campbell, defending, said a doctor suggested Blacklock suffered from a form of mental impairment.

She had spent 44 days in custody.
