BEFORE any more money is spent on sculptures and metal works of art in Blackburn and Darwen, the next priority must be to erect a new memorial to the memory of the men killed in the two World Wars.

The present one in Blackburn Corporation Park, is too far away and is in need of restoration. A suitable site for a new one is the paved island in front of the old town hall, being central and in public view, hopefully, it would deter vandals and shorten the Remembrance Day march from the Cathedral which is too far for many elderly ex-servicemen and women.

The memorial organ destroyed by fire in King George's Hall was paid for by the townsfolk and I assume that the council claimed a large sum of insurance for it, so let there be no objections on the cost of a suitable cenotaph and I hope that there will be full consultations with interested parties regarding the design.
