A SUPERMARKET checkout worker Imran Latif pocketed a £10 note handed over by a customer.
But Blackburn magistrates heard the customer was in fact a security officer from another store brought in to make a test purchase at Latif's till.
Latif, 21, of Cromwell Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to stealing £10 from Morrisons. He was granted a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £75 costs.
Margaret Duckworth, prosecuting, said security staff were suspicious of Latif and organised the test purchase.
The security officer asked Latif how much a vase was. Latif scanned it and gave the price of £9.99. When the officer handed over the money Latif did not re-scan the article and pocketed the money.
Debbie Jameson, defending, said Latif was studying for an HND in business studies and had been using his job at Morrisons to finance his education.
